Obituary of Donald MacFarlane

With great sadness the family of Don MacFarlane announce his passing on August 5, 2006 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital at the age of 82.
Born October 31, 1923 in Michel, British Columbia Donald served during the Second World War as a stretcher-bearer with the 89th - 109th Canadian Army, Lanark Renfrew Scottish Detachment, Recent Kilt Regiment. He worked at Crowsnest Pass Coal Company and lived in Michel, BC until 1957, then moved to Cranbrook, B.C. where he worked for Millar Brown Freight Lines until retirement.
Don loved to walk downtown, have coffee at OJ's and visit with all his friends. He enjoyed soccer, hockey and fly-fishing. Don was a lifetime member of The Royal Canadian Legion. He was a wonderful uncle, great-uncle and great-great uncle.He will be lovingly remembered by Iris, his wife of 58 years; son Ken (Janet) of Spokane, Washington; grandchildren Sean and Caitlin. He is also survived by his very special niece and caregiver Leah and her children Stephanie and Steven, special niece Wendy (Ed) and family, stepsisters Audrey Clare of Whitehorse NWT, Colleen (Bill) Balez of Chemainus, BC, Eileen Clare, Chemainus, BC, half brothers Stuart (Shirley) MacFarlane of Victoria BC and Brian (Pat) MacFarlane of Ladysmith, BC, stepbrother Jim (Barb) Clare of Chemainus BC, sisters-in-law Joyce (Murray) Ross of Kamloops, BC and Deanie (Albert) Holmes of Fort Steele, BC as well as many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.
Don was predeceased by his mother Annie, father Kenneth, stepmother Katherine, brother Kenneth MacFarlane, grandson Travis MacFarlane and nephew Jim MacFarlane.
A Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Wednesday August 9th at the Eagles Hall, Cranbrook, BC, Pastor Bill Plant officiating. Donations in honour of Don's memory may be sent to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Department or to Stars, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Calgary AB, T2E 8M7
