Passed away on July 23, 2006, in Cranbrook, BC.
Martin was born April 22, 1916, in Gretna, Manitoba, his family later moved to Rockglin Saskatchewan where he was raised and schooled before working for his grandfather in Aberadeen, South Dakota, then moving to the Kootenays to work. Later he went off to war and worked and then returned to Great Britain. There he met Ailsa, his wife, and returned to Cranbrook, British Columbia in 1946. where they started a family of five children. He worked for JSB Sawmill and later drove for Trading company, then back to different sawmills. Martin put in 14 years working for the City of Cranbrook as caretaker of the local dump.
Martin was predeceased by his wife in 2004 and three of his sons; first Howie in 1976, then Calvin and Gordon in 1996.
Remaining to mourn Martin's passing are his son Allan of Cranbrook and daughter Heather Simpson of Golden, grandchildren Roger, Billy, Len, Rhonda, Holly, James and Shelly, as well as 12 great grandchildren.
