1933 - 2010

Henry Fercho passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 10:15 p.m. in the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. Henry was born on October 25, 1933 in Bessarabia (Romania), lived in East Germany as a youth, and immigrated to Canada in 1952. After moving to Canada, Henry settled in Calgary, Alberta working in the construction and drywall industries. He moved to Cranbrook, worked for John Romich Drywall then later started A & F Drywall and East Kootenay Drywall Supply.

In 1978 Henry followed his dream by purchasing the Rocky Mountain Lodge guide outfitting operation in the Wigwam Valley of the Kootenays. Henry enjoyed nearly thirty years at "The Lodge". His love of the mountains and vast knowledge of wildlife made him legendary in the guiding industry. Henry's guide outfitting operation included hunting with international clients as well as guiding summer backcountry pack trips and fishing on the Wigwam River. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, an active member of the Guide Outfitters Association of B.C., and the B.C. Trappers Association.

Henry enjoyed his last twenty years with his wife, Ann, and their many horses, dogs and cats. He was always very proud of his three sons Mark (Melinda), Grant and John Fercho. He leaves behind his grandchildren Jace, Jadlyn and Ethan Fercho. Henry will be lovingly remembered by his stepdaughter, Kristi (Wes) and grandsons Ryder and Grayson Barraclough.

Henry is survived by brothers John (Emmy) and Art (Sheila) Fercho, sisters Helen (Herb) Gutsche, Anne (Paul) Engelmann and Lydia Fercho (Emil). He is pre-deceased by brothers Emil and Arnold Fercho.

Henry will forever be remembered for his easygoing and generous nature, kind heart, and endless adventure stories.

A Celebration of Henry's Life will be held at the Heritage Inn on Sunday, September 26, 2010 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted for the Kootenay Wildlife Heritage Fund, PO Box 100, Kimberley, British Columbia, V1A 2Y5.
