Obituary of Ernest Ambrose Meeks

Passed away peacefully at home November 19, 2007 in Cranbrook, B.C., at the age of 77. Ernie was born April 21, 1930 in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. He moved to the Cranbrook area with his parents and brother at the age of 2. Ernie is survived by his wife Catherine, sons David (Martha) of Cranbrook, Michael (Ferris) of Slave Lake, AB and Philip of Burnaby, B.C., daughters Kathleen (Martin) Whitesel of Cranbrook, Judy (Keven) MacDonald of Richmond, B.C., Colleen (Larry) Dureski of Cranbrook and Alanna (Vid) Wadhwani of Maple Ridge, B.C., 'adopted' son Mark (Linda) Mauger of Abbotsford, B.C., 14 grandchildren Madison and Benjamin Meeks, Jessica Whitesel, Patrick and Rebecca MacDonald, Emily and Rosalie Dureski, Ashley, Nathan, Isaac and Jacob Wadhwani and Lori Mohitpour nee Mauger , Ty and Robbie Mauger. Ernie was predeceased by his daughter Rose Mary, brother David and parents Allan and Philomen. Ernie loved his wife of 55 years 'Katie' and his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many days hunting, fishing and berry picking with his close friend Ken Moore. After retiring from his millwright job at Crestbrook he realized a dream of salmon fishing on the ocean with his sons. Ernie enjoyed woodworking and used his talent freely to make beautiful wood rocking horses, furniture, plant stands and displays. Ernie actively supported Christ the Servant Catholic Church serving in the kitchen with his brother Knights of Columbus putting on pancake breakfasts, beef on a bun suppers, and spaghetti dinners. He was an active member of the building and maintenance committee for many years. In lieu of flowers donations to the Christ the Servant Roof Fund will be gratefully accepted. Prayers will be held Thursday November 22, 2007 - 7:00 pm at Christ the Servant Church. Funeral will be held Friday November 23, 2007 - 11:00 am at Christ the Servant Church.
