Johnny or "E mailster" as I called him liked to curl and especially liked to skip. One evening in a pub me and the e mailster were having a couple pints and he declared that he wanted me to be on his team and he was going to skip. He was adamant that I was to play third and he skip. We agreed on this arrangement and to seal the deal Johnny took out a $20 bill and made me write my commitment on both halfs of the $20 bill. He then ripped the twenty in half, gave me one side and he kept the other. Later in the evening he begged fo my half back because he wanted to buy another round. I still have that half of a twenty and will always remember his passion and friendship. He was funny guy that would always be there for you if you needed to spill your guts out to someone. I will miss him a lot and I know he is skipping a team somewhere and making his team mates laugh. Cheers E mailster.

I shared a lot of laughs with John at the curling rink or the odd round of golf. I remember, about 15 years ago, driving John to Calgary for some tests and then we were going to a bonspiel in the Crowsnest. I guess John didn't like the music that was playing in my car so, he fumbles through the CD case and puts a new one in. When it starts playing I look at John and he has that wry smile that he had. John says to me "Himel likes ABBA......Himel doesn't tell anyone that he likes ABBA, but, Himel likes ABBA."
Many friends will miss you John, and I will think of you often, especially everytime I hear
ABBA :)

In speaking with people since his passing, it didn't take long to realize that one cannot tell a Johnny story without smiling. I worked with John for many years and with that, we also played a few rounds of golf together, shared a few meals, and shared a few miles. He never hesitated to share a part of his soul with us, and was always there with an ear to listen when necessary. He was the true definition of friend. As we continue to share stories of John over the next few days, weeks and months ahead, what a great legacy to know that people will be smiling when they share those memories. John's legacy will live on in a simple smile. Good job, Johnny. Rest In Peace my friend.

I have some fond memories of John when we both lived in Ft. McMurray. He was the pitcher of our slo-pitch team and was also the afternoon news guys at the local radio station where I worked. You could usually find John at a local watering hole called "Minglers" where he would be the first guy to buy you a beer, and he was known for singing Alabama's-"I'm In A Hurry" at Kareoke. He worked the room so well, that by the time he was finished singing he had everyone's attention(even those that didn't even know him personally). He was a very warm and funny guy with a quick wit and great sense of humour. I'm going to miss him!

Met John thru my son Kyle who works for the Pattison Group. We were at the Cyclone Taylor Cup Tournament in Fernie at the time. I really enjoyed John and his sense of humour. You are gone to young Pal. Condolences to the family.

My most vivid memory of John was when he was about three years old. His mom and dad had asked my sister Betty and me to babysit him and his sister Becky while they were away for an overnight enggement. My grandmother agreed and we went to their little house and got instructions from their parents....then we were on our own. I had wanted to get my allowance to buy John a chocolate bar but it was in winter and was really cold. I bundled John up in his coat and the only boots i could find....gumboots..... and walked to my home about three blocks away. John cried all the way there and back due to his feet being cold.....so when i got back to his home, i got his boots off and soaked his feet in water that may have been a little too warm. Poor kid cried and i couldnt even calm him with the candy i had bought him....In his growing up years, I would see him as he went about his daily activities, and I can always remember thinking that he was such a cute little boy , all grown up into a very handsome man. I saw him in Vauxhall a couple of years ago and recognised him immediately. It was nice to see him again and find out that he was happy. Rest in peace John, we will miss you.
