Michael Jay Dorris - Born October 26, 1954 in Cranbrook, British Columbia died on May 8, 2007 in Victoria, BC after a long struggle with alcoholism. Michael grew up in Cranbrook, graduated from Mt. Baker Secondary School and then attended Mt. Royal College in Calgary. He became an IWA Journeyman Carpenter and worked all over B.C. and in Arizona where he lived for several years. "Mike" or "Emma", as he was fondly known, was a goaltender for the original Cranbrook Colts Junior Hockey Team. He was very active in athletics through participation and organization. He will be greatly missed by the many, many people whose lives he touched.He was the grandson of long time Cranbrook pioneers, Eleanor and Frank Bridges and Florence and Harry Dorris. He is grieved for and will be sadly missed by his family: father, Gerry Dorris (Heather) of Victoria; mother, Maggie Dorris, brother David (Rhonda) and their sons - Jordy, Parker & Aaron, sister Nancy Zier, brother-in-law Werner Zier and their daughters Melissa and Amy, all of Cranbrook. Also Aunt Lois Maguire (Ernie) and children Deborah and Burke, Uncle Harvey Bridges (Jean) and children Gregory and David all of Vancouver, BC, also by his many dear friends. He was predeceased by his aunt, Sister of St. Anne's, Margaret Doris and cousins Ron and Allan Bridges. There will be a gathering for remembrance and celebration of Michael's life at the Cranbrook Alliance Church, on Saturday May 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Those wishing to remember Mike with a donation may do so to the Salvation Army.
