Obituary of William George Lancaster

William George "Bill" Lancaster of Cranbrook, British Columbia passed away suddenly at home on April 7, 2007, at the age of 82.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary, daughter Brenda (Greg), grandchildren Kristina and Tyler and great-grandson Shawn, all of Bonners Ferry, Idaho, several nieces and nephews and a brother in law in Calgary.
He was predeceased by his mother, sister and nephew.
Bill had a busy life starting in the coal mine in Mt. Park Alberta. At age 14 he played senior hockey as a goalie and went on to play for the Canadians in Edmonton, Trail Smoke Eaters in 47/48 and the Big Six League with Canmore Legionnaires winning the Western Championship and as an old timer in Golden won a Bronze in Switzerland, a Silver in Regina and Gold in Scotland. He served in the navy in the North Atlantic and after being discharged joined his mother who had moved to Banff. He worked for the Federal Government before making a career in mechanics working for Brewsters and later moved to Golden where he operated Lancaster Hiway Service for many years. He enjoyed curling, fishing, dancing and most sports and was proud of getting his pilots licence. Bill was involved with Kinsmen in Banff, was Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks and Past Master Mason as well as being active in the Legion in Golden. He will be remembered for his keen sense of humour and a great enthusiasm for life and being with family and friends.His wishes for a private service were fulfilled on April 13, 2007, cremation.
