Obituary of Arthur Pendry

1924 - 2009

Arthur Allan Pendry passed away peacefully on May 11, 2009 at 85 years of age. Bud was born in Lister (Creston), British Columbia on November 8, 1924, the youngest of ten siblings born to John and Viola Pendry. As a teen he helped his dad cattle ranch on the Creston Flats. He served with the Lincoln Wellington Regiment overseas in WWII as an infantryman. He was at the Falais Gap and the Liberation of Holland. Following his military service he married Lillian "Topsy" Osborne and settled in Marysville with his family, son Myles and daughters Susan (Ron), Carolyn, Sheila (Erwin), Kayla (Murray). He worked for CMNS for several years, coached little league baseball, enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. Left to tell stories about their Grumpa are several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Cory (Tara), Khris (Oriella), Cameron, Tyson, Braden, December, Cassandra, Cori-Lynn, Brandon, Justin, Myles and Kiana and many nephews and nieces. Bud was a very generous and giving person. In his younger years he often dressed as Santa to deliver presents to children. He shared his garden vegetables with the neighbourhood and friends. Unknown to many, Bud also placed food hampers on the steps of those who needed it most and never hesitated to assist many in need. Because of his giving spirit, in lieu of flowers, donations to the local food bank would be appropriated (Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank Society, 340 Leadenhall Street, Kimberley, British Columbia, V1A 2R6). Bud spent many years with his close and dear friend, Jackie Bhatia. Friends wishing to make a contribution may consider the Schizophrenic Society in both their memories. A special remembrance will be held at the Anglican Church in Kimberley on Friday, May 15, 2009 at 3:00 pm followed by a reception at the Elks Hall. Bud was the last son of the Creston Pendry pioneer family and will be missed by his family and friends.
