Obituary of Gerhard Hermann Langenbach

passed away on January 20, 2007 at the age of 85.
Gerhard was born May 5, 1921 in Ettlingen, Germany. He started his horticulture apprenticeship at the age of 15 receiving his diploma in 1939. His love for working in the greenhouse business was interrupted by WWII. He served in the medical corps from 1941 to 1945 when he was taken as a POW in Russia until 1949. After immigrating to Canada in 1952 Gerhard worked in Calgary at Terrils Flowers until 1969. Then he moved to Cranbrook where he purchased East Kootenay Greenhouses, which he ran for over 35 years, doing what he loved most. In his spare time he loved being outdoors, rock hunting, ice sailing, fishing and gardening.
Gerhard will be lovingly remembered by Lore, his wife of 52 years; sons Paul (Shellie) of Cranbrook and Walter (Elaine) of Cranbrook, daughter Krista (Steve) Bridge of Cranbrook and daughter Anna of Cranbrook, grandchildren Kenny, Jenni, Donna, Ariana, and Brody as well as many nieces, his cousin Carl (Toni) Dreise of Langley BC and family pet Czar. His sisters Elizabeth Bauer, Trudel Langenbach and Gabriele Kober, all of Ettlingen, Germany also survive him as well as cousins, relatives and many close friends.
Gerhard was predeceased by his sister Maria Rech in 1990 as well as by his parents, Hermann and Elice. Funeral services will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday January 27, 2007 at McPherson Funeral Home, Cranbrook, British Columbia, Father Conrado Beloso officiating.
