Laurena Ellen (Smith) Kane May 7, 1929 - Sept 11, 2019 Her entire family celebrated her "90th" birthday, with her at Blue Lake, in May, 2019 Laurena Kane passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family Sept 11, 2019. Laurena was a light to all who knew her. Laurena was born & raised in Calgary & was a proud Calgarian. Three years ago she moved to Kimberley, B.C. She came to love her new home, her friends & she especially loved the beautiful skies. Married young & the mother of 5 children under 9 years old, she was tireless. She helped everyone she knew. Laurena was everyone's "Favorite" sister, sister-in-law, niece, auntie & friend. She sewed, knitted, quilted, painted & volunteered. She supported all her children, with countless, lessons helping each of her children achieve their own accomplishments. Overcoming a fear of water, she achieved her life saving awards, while raising a family & became the 1st female pool supervisor in Calgary. She was well respected in her professional community. She loved the arts & won a scholarship to the Banff School of Fine Arts while still in high school. She was a season ticket holder to the Calgary Philharmonic & Calgary Opera for over 30 years. She travelled extensively, visiting Canada, coast to coast, the Caribbean, UK, Europe, the Middle East (including the Holy Lands), Mediterranean & Northern Africa. Saving the best for last, Ma'am was the best grandmother & great-grandmother you could wish for. Each child was the "Special One". She participated in their lives & triumphs, always without judgement, with great wisdom & generosity of heart. No one could celebrate like Ma'am. Birthdays, Christmas & life's events. No one surpassed her enthusiasm. Ma'am never complained, she always saw the larger picture. Ma'am was the Queen of making lemonade out of lemons. Thank You to all who loved, Laurena. She certainly loved us.
