Please share a memory of Ron to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ron Rushworth November 7, 1932 ~ August 10, 2019 It is with deep, deep sadness that the family of Ron Rushworth announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the age of 86 after a short battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Eleanor and their three children, Janice Strong, Michele Rushworth and David Rushworth, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Ron was born in Toronto on November 7, 1932 and he met Eleanor when they were both teenagers on a bus trip to Buffalo. Two years later they married. This past May Ron and Eleanor were joined by a large gathering of friends and family members to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Ron worked much of his career at a gear-cutting factory in Toronto and then upon retirement, he and Eleanor moved to Cranbrook, where they have lived for the past 25 years. Ron loved woodworking. He became so well known locally in Cranbrook for his woodworking talent that in recent years he had been featured on his own local cable television show called Ron's Workshop, in which he taught how to make various wood toys and other things. His woodworkings were shared with people all over the world. Ron loved gardening, camping, fishing, craft shows and people. He was also an avid reader and an excellent chess player. Ron was an active volunteer in his community with the Key City Theatre and the Lions Club. He helped set up the Senior's Hall Woodworking Shop. He had a wonderful, playful sense of humor and always enjoyed being around people of all ages. Ron deeply cared about other people and always put their needs above his own. He was a wonderfully loving father and husband, always extremely modest and humble. He was warm and friendly, always smiling. He had a gift for making even total strangers at ease. The world has lost a gentle, kind, caring soul. There will be a Celebration of Life service to honor Ron's life and legacy in September. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cranbrook Lions Club or to the charity of your choice in Ron's honor. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
