Paul Francis Douglas Sargent
1929 - 2019
The family of Paul Sargent, of Cranbrook, sadly announce his passing form this world on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. He was 89.
Paul was born on March 20, 1929 in Hazelton, BC. He was the youngest and last surviving member of seven siblings. Paul will be fondly remembered for his lovely singing voice. He spent many happy hours singing in different choirs, barbershop groups, at church, and at weddings and funerals with his wife Bernice accompanying him on the piano. Paul loved telling a tall tale, playing a good game of cards and especially enjoyed crib. He worked hard all his life and was a jack of all trades. He could always be counted on to lend a hand to fix anything around the house or the church. After moving to Cranbrook in 1975 Paul and Bernice bought, renovated and operated Woodlands Grocery store and also restored the Parkin Manor (Castle House) on 10th Avenue, and ran it as a bed and breakfast for a number of years. Paul was a great believer of buying local and supporting the community however he could.
Paul is survived by his three children Roy Sargent (Maria), David Sargent (Cindy), and Anne Swanson (Bill), his grandchildren Celia and Justin Swanson, Paul and Kieren Sargent and Max and Teale Sargent, as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul was predeceased by his loving wife Bernice in 2015.
A funeral mass for Paul will be celebrated on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Christ The Servant Catholic Church in Cranbrook. He will be interred in Westlawn Cemetery in Cranbrook on Monday, February 18, 2019.
Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
