A LIFE LIVED LARGE Rodney George Savage Rodney George Savage passed away on January 25, 2019 at Foothills Hospital in Calgary surrounded by family. Rod would say he lived a full life, and his family will attest to that. He was born July 19, 1939 in Bralorne, British Columbia, first son of Stan and Hazel Savage, and older brother to Dan, John and Ralph. It was through a growing interest in horses and the cowboy way, he found his life partner and wife of 57 years Jacque Maartman. A career with BC Tel brought the family to Cranbrook where they eventually found the place that would be home for the rest of his life, the Ranch in Mayook. With a view of the Rocky Mountains, horses and cows around, he lived out his life the way he wanted. The Ranch was where his children and grandchildren most enjoyed gathering and many, many memories were made there. Rod lived a life where family was first and included their four children Jay (Cheryl), Jill (Don), Jodi (Jason), and Joel (Anita). While Dads love for his sons and daughters had no bounds, it was watching his grandchildren grow up that filled him with both pride and joy; Jared, Sydney, Taryn, Perry, Lauryn, Reili, Kenda, Kellan and Isabella. There was never a day that Papa, or Pops, didn't have time for and time with at least one of his loved grandkids. Beyond the Ranch his life had many backdrops, including the rodeo arena, a hockey arena, a school gym, and in later years a golf course, he enjoyed his time at all of them. An extended group of family and friends from far and wide including Savage Families, Maartmans, Millars, and many more, filled his life and heart. Rod's gifts back to his Community included working for many years supporting the Agriculture Industry with the Kootenay Livestock Association, BC Cattlemans Association, and RDEK. There will be a celebration of life for Rod at the Ranch the long weekend of June 29 to July 1, 2019. To be included in communication once details are finalized please send an email to jay.savage@shaw.ca. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, donations to either STARS or BC Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated on behalf of the Family. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
