Lawrence John Wright
"Larry"
1945 - 2019
Larry passed away unexpectedly at East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 74 years of age surrounded by family and friends.
Larry was born on December 12, 1945 in Toronto, Ontario. Larry grew up in Windsor and Niagara Falls. He joined the Navy at 18 and served on the aircraft carrier "The Bonaventure". He saw 21 countries during his service. He was a commanding officer for sea cadets in Niagara Falls, he was twice president of the Niagara Falls Legion. His passion was to work with his hands and he loved to be outdoors. He particularly enjoyed the home he built at the lake in Kipling, ON. It was a humble beginning with minimal amenities. Over two years of building, it became a house and a comfortable home. Everyone was welcome and in particular the hummingbirds! One of the jobs that Larry enjoyed most was becoming a school bus driver. So even though he would tell you he hated kids; that certainly wasn't true. In Larry's later life he and Jacquie moved to British Columbia where he continued to drive school bus, do odd jobs and retired at 69. Even though he was fighting diabetes and cancer, he and Jacquie purchased a home in Sparwood where he looked forward to making it their forever home.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Jacqueline Wright, his sons Alan Wright and Timothy Wright, his step-children Jerry Gagne, Timothy Gagne, Carolyn Hughes and Jeffery Gagne, his siblings Carol Costa, Donald Likowich and Sue Ruscitti, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his ex-wife Edie Silifant and his beloved dog and companion Holly.
Larry was predeceased by his sister Marilyn Wright, his parents John Wright and Alice Likowich and his step-father John Likowich.
A memorial service for Larry will be held at the Sparwood Christian Centre located at 436 Pine Avenue on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 3:00 pm. Refreshments will follow the service.
Memorial donations in honour of Larry can be made to Hope Air, #207, 124 - Merton Street, Toronto, ON, M4S 2Z2.
