I have never known another educator like RodO. His passion and dedication to us, his students, was endless. My heartfelt prayers go to the family, colleagues, and friends. I pray that RodO has found a nice vantage point from which to watch us carry on his legacy and to be able to watch his children and family grow.

I never had to directly be a student of Rod's to be touched by what he gave generously. My first memory of Rod was meeting him at the Kootenay Zone Drama Festival in 2003, which he organized. I remember from going for lunch with him and getting to experience his facilities and the great festival he organized that he was passionate and good at what he did, and he had a big heart. It was drama teachers like him and my own drama teacher in Kaslo that helped to inspire me to become a teacher -- he was one of those teachers who gave it everything for the opportunities for their students. The calibre of the festival that he set up, which included bringing in a professional adjudicator for our performances, helped to show how much respect he had for his students and those of the region. One of the most momentous occasions of my high school career was being awarded a top award by the adjudicator at that festival.
When I returned to live in Cranbrook for school a couple of years later, I always made a point of going to see the big shows he did with his students because I knew they would be inspirational for me as both a person and a teacher.
I will be thinking of Rod during his memorial this afternoon and am sure half the town will want to be in attendance for the number of lives he touched. He will be very sorely missed and my heartfelt condolences go out to his family and those whose lives he graciously affected.

My first meeting with Rod and Colleen was when their young family first came to town. I had the pleasure of being Jasmine's preschool teacher. Throughout the years we have thoroughly enjoyed the productions that Rod so astutely took the students through to the final show. The students do not just experience the production they were in but it became a whole life experience. This community has truly had an angel amongst us and we will have the memories for a life time. Inspirational only begins to describe feelings felt while an audience member. You will always be a part of the theatre community and the community as a whole. Thank you for sharing your far to short a time with us. Time allows us to heal and our memories keep our loved ones close for ever.
Always, Kim Levie and Oreen Walker

Rod was one of the most inspiring people I've had the pleasure to meet. He was one of the teachers that inspired me to become a teacher and to do it with all I had....and to enjoy every moment. This loss is a momentous loss to this community but I know his kindness and inspiration lives on in every student he's ever had contact with. He will be truly missed.

While we knew Rod only to say hello, we as adults in the community were definitely affected by his activities just as the kids were. Being audience to his many high school productions was not only entertaining but inspirational. It was wonderful to see the potential of the students he shared his energy with bloom under his direction.
We will surely miss Rod's presence among us. Godspeed Rod, your memory lives on.
Deb Dau and Sandy Ashby.

It was with deep sadness and profound sympathy that I learned of Rod's recent passing. During my 37-year tenure in education, he was one of the most dedicated persons whom I ever met, a leader, inspiring, and a true role model for all his students and his professional colleagues. My sincere sympathy go to his family and to all of the members of his extended family. I know Rod will be sorely missed by everyone at Mount Baker Secondary and School District No.5-a true friend has been truly lost.
