Obituary of Harold Arthur Doan

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Harold or Harry as many of his friends knew him by, passed away in the early morning of September 4, 2013 following a 3-year battle with Cancer. He was 71.
Harold leaves to mourn his cherished wife of 32 years Valerie; brother Dennis; daughter Kelly, step-son Jeff Bromley (Melanie) and step-daughter Leanne Hargrave (Bill) along with grandchildren Tyler, Justin, Celeste, Jacob, Isabella and Gracie. And one recently arrived great-grandchild, Peyton.
Harold was predeceased by his parents Edith and Art and four siblings, Reg, Betty, Gerald and Doris.
Born in Boseman, Manitoba, Harry relocated to Wilmer, B.C., in the 1960's where he worked for the Parks Board in Kootenay National Park. Following that Harold started a career in the forest industry at the Canal Flats Sawmill and relocated to Kimberley in 1981 after meeting his wife, Valerie. Following a 32-year career at mill Harold retired in 2004 to a life of fishing, hunting, cheering on his Kootenay Ice as a long-time season ticket holder as well as never missing a dance recital, soccer, hockey or baseball game or a Karate tournament of his grandchildren.
A memorial service will take place in Kimberley on Tuesday, September 10, 2013 at the Anglican Church at 11:00 am with a reception to follow in Anglican Church Hall. Cremation entrusted to McPherson Funeral Services.
In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Harold, a donation can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 19 - 9th Avenue South, Cranbrook, British Columbia, V1C 2L9. Or for those preparing for Harold's favourite time of year, hunting season, as you bugle in a bull elk or spot a four-point buck, please take the time to remember him doing what he loved to do.
