I am Norm Barry of BC. I knew Tims Dad Des many years ago. He allowed us young men to share his sailboat on Kootenay Lake ( thank you Des ) and years later one day the phone rang at my home and unexpectedly Des was on the line to say hello to me to congratulate me on a happening I had. Des was always so much fun to be around just like his son Tim whom has been my 'friend" since the 1970's as pilots in YCG. To the Cowans, we send our condolences on your loss. Regards, Norm Barry.

When I smashed my ankle, for the second time, in a car crash, Des said he gathered all the bones together and made them face the right way, and sewed me up. "If I have to take your foot off, we'll do it later," he observed. Every doctor I saw about that ankle subsequently commented on what a great job he had done. And Des was socially a charming and witty companion. My sympathy to his large family, who must surely miss him a lot. Anne Edwards.

Gordon golfed with Dr. Des Cowan and I have heard so many compliments of former patients that are grateful for his expertise . He was a "people" person with a friendly manner and engaging smile. I worked with Des for many years as a nurse at the hospital. He will be remembered as a skilled surgeon who always considered the nurses as a important part of the team. His kindness and wonderful sense of humour will never be forgotten. Rest In Peace Des, you deserve it. My love and condolences to Joy and all the family. Carol Howe
