Obituary of Marie Nina DeLuca

Marie Nina DeLuca 1936 - 2018 It is with profound sadness that the family of Marie Nina DeLuca announces her passing. She went peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, May 24, 2018, surrounded by her family. Marie was born in Upsala, Ontario on December 10, 1936. Her family moved to Fort William shortly after, where Marie attended public school and Fort William Vocational High School. She joined the staff at Bell Telephone where she trained as a switchboard operator. Marie took tremendous pride in her work and made many lifelong friends during her 25 year career in both Ontario and BC. On July 7, 1956 she married Bill DeLuca and they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in July of this year. As newlyweds they moved to Marathon, Ontario where Bill had an apprenticeship with the pulp mill and Marie continued on with Bell Telephone. Their four children were all born in Wilson Memorial Hospital in Marathon and together they enjoyed 12 years there while starting to raise their family. As well as her loving husband Bill, Marie is survived by her sons Jim (Cathy) and Larry (Jo), daughters Donna (Tim) and Natalie (Don). Also left to grieve her passing are grandchildren Sam (Erika), Ryan, Sarah (Cole), Maddison (Henry), Haley and Darren. She also cherished two great grandsons Coen and Remington of Lethbridge, AB. Marie will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother and great grandmother. Some of Marie's fondest memories were of the family gatherings where she could be surrounded by her children and her grandchildren. In Bill and Marie's many years of marriage, they enjoyed travelling and visiting their many friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service and a memorial Mass will be held at Christ The Servant Catholic Church in Cranbrook, BC on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cranbrook Hospital Thrift Store where Marie worked for many years.
