Obituary of John Allan Windsor

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

August 6, 1944 - January 16, 2010

There are things we don't want to happen, but we have to accept, things we do not know but have to learn and people we can't live without but have to let go....

It is with great sadness that the family of John Windsor announces his passing. John passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia while visiting his children and grandchildren.

John was a well respected man in his home town of Clarenville and served many hours volunteering for his community. John will be remembered for the many contributions he made to the Clarenville Area Recreation Association and Flying Blades Figure Skating Club. He had a passion for sports throughout his whole life - as a child he loved team sports - especially hockey, as an adult he played soft ball and curled and in his most recent years he found a passion on the "green" spending many hours with his buddies playing golf.

Nothing put a twinkle in his eye more than watching his children and later grandchildren play out his love of sport in hockey and figure skating. John also served 40 years with Works, Services and Transportation as a Superintendant of Highways.

John was deeply loved by his family. The values he taught his children will be cherished and passed on for many generations to come. His family will take comfort that he provided them an internal compass to guide them throughout their lives and as a result he will live on in his family.

Left to remember his devotion to family is his wife Georgie (nee West) of 38 years; his children Kim Miller (Corey) and Kristina Walsh (Terry); sister Phyllis Windsor (Roger Colmay) and sic cherished grandchildren: Molly, Alex, Kasey, Joel, Rylan and Reese. John also leaves a multitude of extended family in Newfoundland and Labrador and many friends who held great importance to him.

John's profound love of Newfoundland will be respected in that his family will bring him home for a memorial service to honour his life. As a family we would like to express our sincere thanks to the community of Kimberley for their friendship and support during this difficult time.
