well Jim had a good life and was a tower of exuberant strength to his family and others. I remember camping trips with the Mchugh and Milne families in the Kannanskis. He moderated my own dad and the two were life long buddies until my dad predeceased him.. I phoned to talk to him about 16 months ago but he was in the hot tub so I chatted with Betty. She will find it difficult on her own. Best to Julie, Carol and David. While life does wind down and end it is hard for those who remain where there is an inevitable void. So sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was a big part of my life in Iran where I first met him and Betty while we (the Hartmans) were living in Abadan and they came over. I still remember the wonderful desert sailboat that he built when there was no available water to sail on in Ahvaz. He also did me the great honour of giving the toast to the bride at my wedding in Calgary in 1985. The last time that Stewart and I visited Ben in Banff, he told us how he and Jim were planning their big 100 birthday party coming up in 2020. Jim will be sorely missed by all who he touched during his wonderful life.

When I heard of Jim's passing so many memories flooded back. He had a great love of family and friends. I remember watching him gracefully slalom ski at Lake Windemere and of the times spent with my family there. He and my Dad's friendship dated back to University I believe. His nickname for Dad was Old Chrome Dome because Dad was bald and sunburnt all the time. He always took time to listen to what people had to say. He enjoyed a good laugh and had a gentleness in him. He will be greatly missed.

One of the earliest memories I have is being lifted across a creek in the Kananaskis in the mid 1950s by Jim, the gentle giant. Jim was a person I always looked up to and I will always fondly remember not only him, but the entire family. Thoughts are with all of the family and I am so sorry for your loss.

Since meeting Jim and Betty in Lagos, Nigeria in 1978, we have enjoyed their company in Calgary, London and Budapest and over many summer visits at Lake Windermere. Jim always had great stories to tell and was keenly interested in community events and local developments. Bob and I always admired his close ties with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mostly we were touched by his love for and partnership with Betty who was always by his side with a smile and her own tales to tell. We will miss Jim dearly. He was a fine man with many talents, a friend and an inspiration. Our deepest sympathy to all the family.
