Helen Carolyn Janzen-Nixon "Carolyn" 1937 - 2017 Our precious loved one, born June 21, 1937 in Prince Rupert, BC, passed away on November 9, 2017, in Cranbrook, BC at the age of 80. Carolyn was raised in Terrace, BC. She married Henry Janzen in 1955, together they raised four children in the community of Hudson's Hope, BC until Henry's death in 1981. Carolyn remarried Richard "Dick" Nixon in 1986, and moved to Thetis Island, BC and then to Chemainus, BC, with Dick passing in 1999. In 2004 she moved to Cranbrook, BC residing there until her passing. Carolyn was an amazing, talented individual who had a "heart of gold". Her love for her family was demonstrated in her selfless actions as family was always at the forefront of her love and generosity. Her love for friends and strangers was genuine and was displayed in her kindness towards them. She was gifted with hospitality and the love of cooking. She cooked in many establishments over the years, enjoying creating "daily specials" for the patrons.She also opened her own "Fine Dining Room" in her home on Thetis Island cooking up fabulous culinary creations. Carolyn was never idle; when she wasn't cooking she could be found crocheting, knitting, painting or tending to her beautiful flower garden. Her special little friend "Skippy", her shitzu dog, brought her such delight. She will be fondly remembered for her love of life, her resiliency to hardship and her caring ways. Carolyn is survived by her sister Edith Giesleman of Chemanius, BC, step sisters, Phyllis, Sharon, Sue and Joan, sons, Ron (Joni) Janzen of Cranbrook, BC, Kenneth (Rachel) Janzen of Moberly Lake, BC, daughter, Cindy Janzen of Duncan, BC, and daughter-in-law, Brenda Janzen of Prince George, BC. She is survived also by her grandchildren, Corrine, Robert, Brody, Brycen and Kyle and her great grandchildren, Vyla, Blake and Weston. Carolyn is predeceased by her parents, 1st husband Henry Janzen, 2nd husband Richard Nixon, son Dwayne Janzen, sisters Pat and Jackie and her half-brother John. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held in the spring of 2018 in Hudson's Hope, BC. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, as a way of thanks to the Equipment Loan Program which Carolyn benefited greatly from. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service.
