Denis Mervin Babcock 1934 - 2017 Denis Mervin Babcock passed away peacefully in Kimberley, BC on Sunday, November 5th, 2017. Denis was born in Saskatchewan on April 12th, 1934. He was a long-time resident of Cold Lake, Alberta, where he was a popular teacher at Athabasca School, and where he operated a small cattle ranch. In his career, he also served in the Canadian Military, pursued graduate studies in the United States, and worked as a school superintendent. Denis's family, his many friends in Cold Lake, Kimberley and across Canada and the US, and his former students will remember him as charming, gregarious, perpetually cheerful and funny — he always had a smile, a joke, or a song to share. Denis is predeceased by his parents Arthur Mervin and Robina (Spence Kettles), his sisters Beverly (White) and Frances (Glover), and his beloved son Kent and grandson Ryan. Denis is survived by his children Wade (Dawn) of Bowser, BC, Andrea Klevyer (Owen) of Edmonton, AB, Becca (Trent Soholt) of Halifax, NS, and Philip Malanchuk (Tracy) of Pismo Beach, CA, as well as by his five surviving grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Donations in Denis's name can be made to the Cranbrook Kimberley Hospice Society or the Kimberley Special Care Home in recognition of the outstanding care he received in his final years as a resident of the Kimberley Special Care Home "The Pines". The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Denis's dear friends among the staff and residents of The Pines. A celebration of Denis's life will be held in Kimberley in May 2018. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service. Condolences for the family can be offered at: www.mcphersonfh.com
