McLuckie, John MacFarlane "Jake" 1931 - 2017 Jake McLuckie passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 in Cranbrook, BC at 86 years of age. Jake was born in Vancouver, BC on June 19, 1931 and raised there as well. Throughout his life, he had a passion for the outdoors: fishing, hunting and especially boating. Jake was a gifted craftsman, with any material, and he took this talent into the boating industry where he owned and operated North Shore Marine Service and Speedy Marine. Jake was well known in the Lower Mainland Marine industry for his work, leadership and guidance. He was extremely creative and designed and built many things for many people. This is what he loved to do. Yearly, Jake visited the Cariboo region with close friends for hunting trips, and traveled to many warm places where he could play and enjoy the sun with friends and family. Jake's first retirement took him to Chase, BC in 1998. He began his next career as a handy man where he furthered designed and built amazing structures for various friends around the province. He thoroughly enjoyed his new home, especially when his family came and camped each summer in the Shuswap. While in Chase, Jake took 2 trips a year to Cranbrook to visit his family and complete another building or renovation project. His son-in-law and grandsons learned many tricks of various trades from Grandpa Jake. Jake eventually moved, and finally retired, in Cranbrook in 2014, at 83 years of age. In the fall of 2014, he moved into the Fisher Peak unit at Joseph Creek Care Village. He will be remembered there for all of the "Dairy Queen Sundaes" he ate. Jake lived life to the fullest and was loved by many. Many will miss him. Special thanks to the staff at the Fisher Peak Unit at Joseph Creek Care Village for their kindness, flexibility and professional care. Jake is survived by his daughter Sandi Lavery, son-in-law Paul and his two-favorite people in the world, his grandsons Christopher and Matthew; his son Scott McLuckie; and his two brothers Bob McLuckie and Bill McLuckie of Vancouver. He was predeceased by his mother Gertrude Bushfield and his father Robert M. McLuckie. A small family gathering to remember Jake will be held at a later date in the Shuswap region. Arrangements entrusted to McPherson Funeral Service. Condolences for the family can be offered at: www.mcphersonfh.com
