Nipper I would like to take this time to say goodbye to you. I thank you for all the good times we had teaching and skiing together, the ski school parties and dinners. You touched so many lives over the years and helped shape the lives of my family. You will be greatly missed and forever in our thoughts. I have asked my mom and dad to look out for you and keep you company. Love to Molly Tuk and family.

Most of my earliest memories contain Nipper: sitting on his lap in the old ski school, drinking (very sweet & caffeinated) tea and eating cookies as three year-old; Nip teaching me how to skip rocks at 5 years, or how to aim elastic bands at unsuspecting adults during ski school parties; Nip giving my mom a beautiful bell/wind-chime when we moved into the Marysville house, and telling her "now it will sound like home, too," referencing the cow bells in Switzerland; Nip's clock (Who cares?); his love for his dogs; teaching us the best way to throw paper airplanes; helping my sisters and I "save" a painted turtle up at Larchwood, and many more memories throughout my childhood right up to Nip and Molly celebrating all three of our high school graduations with family and friends.
Nip's presence during my childhood was an incredible gift. As kids, we sensed how well-respected Nip was by the other adults, but to us, he was always on our team - mischievous, fun, and a formidable combination of wisdom and "pull my finger" humour. He taught us lessons, and many of them were bigger than how to ski or how to skip-rocks. I know that the ripples he leaves behind will continue for a long time.
My love and condolences to Molly, Mike Tuk, and family,
-- Carolyn Norton

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Nip -- and hope the family's loss is lightened by seeing how many people he touched. I didn't see Nip often, but our friendship started many years ago. He was always the same: warm, funny and welcoming. I wish our paths had crossed more often. He was a very special person.
Sincere condolences,

March 2000 - SKIMP in Kimberley. Michele and I were brand new skiers. We just had 4 lessons in Quebec.
We will always remember how we were received : by a blue eyes-big smile guy. He tooks care of us the whole week. He skied with us and as other friends has writen he said : It is so easy, you have just to turn right than left than right and so on.
But the best has been the Wednesday midday PicNic in the middle of the mountain with Some Instructors and Volunteers.
We shared some drinks and foods and Nip began to tell jokes and facts about his mountain. 3 hours later we all were still listening Nip and we all died laughing.
We went at least 10 times at SKIMP and we always were looking forward to Nip. If Nip was there, we were sure that the SKIMP will be funny and pleasant.
Nip we will miss you forever.

Although I haven't seen Nip for some time, I enjoyed working with him both on the CADS TC and at Kimberley CADS festivals. His laid back approach and management style was greatly appreciated and I am sure positively impacted those who had the fortune to work with him. Condolences to the family......Clay Dawdy (CADS-NCD)

Oh, Nipper, I didn't get to see you again. We met many times when you came out to the coast for our annual tune-up and the latest news from CADS for all our examiners. Sometimes we met at Whistler, sometimes at Mt. Washington here on Vancouver Island. Also at the Nationals wherever they were. One great memory I have is when the Nationals were held in Kimberley. It was classic spring skiing weather. At the end of one day I went to see you in the Ski School office for a chat and a laugh. One of your instructors came by and you asked them to set up the kiddies swimming pool outside and fill it with snow. Since you were often up to something, I had my suspicions. After a trip to the old day lodge, I came back to find the pool was full of beer! All of the CADS and Ski School instructors were standing around indulging after a hot day on the hill. Now, I've stood around barbeques and campfires in the spring up the mountain, but never a pool full of beer. We all loved it. It was just the kind of thoughtful thing you would do.
One year, when you were out on the Island teaching and we all went out for dinner, we started talking about wood & canvas canoes, and how difficult it was to access clear, close-grained lumber for building. You said you were looking for clear spruce for your aircraft. I have a brother-in-law in the logging business up in Haida Gwaii (formerly Queen Charlotte Islands), so I got in touch with him, and yes, it was still impossible to get some first growth logs still. After I let you know about this, I asked how you were planning on transporting them to the mainland? Your answer was that with your son, you would get a boat and tow them down to Vancouver! Nothing was impossible for you. Then life got in the way, and I didn't hear from you again......
As one of the founding members of the Vancouver Island Skiing for the Disabled (now Adaptive Snow Sports), along with Herb Bradley, we all appreciated your methods and manner of teaching. Those included so much knowledge about skiing, people, all served with a great sense of humour, but high expectations. I enjoyed meeting up with you at various mountains in B.C. when we had a Rookie Examiner with us. So many great memories. Thank you for being you.
Also, condolences to your family who so generously shared your talents with the rest of us.

My condolences to all the Bradford family. Nip helped me make a decision which influenced my life. Convinced me to instruct skiing in the Laurentians, he was at Mt. Tremblant, I at Gray Rock Inn 2 miles apart. Always remember him saying ' the only thing he missed about being away from Kimberley was having Xmas dinner with his family'.
All of us instructors had respect for Nip, he was gentle, kind and a beautiful smooth skier.

I cannot begin to put into words what Nip has meant to me and my family.
Nipper's influences, learnings and gifts began to shape me after a course in Lake Louise, where he was an examiner on my level 2. His influences and gifts continued to shape me for the next 20+ years. His job offer brought me to Kimberley, where I have stayed. His special gifts helped shape not only myself but my entire family.
Nipper's presence, teachings and love for life will be with me forever.
Love and condolences to Molly, Tuk and all of the family.

Nipper gave a piece of himself to so many.
He was kind, generous, fun and funny, giving and loving, steadfast and strong, and always there, but the word for me is Grace... Grace is something that can't be taught, I believe it is measured by how much light we carry in our soul.
Nipper was full of light. "Grace"
My heart goes out to Molly,Mike tuk and family,
And to all of us that Nipper touched so deeply. I will carry a piece of him in my heart and soul forever.
I love you Nipper

One time I asked Nip if I should enrol my son, Dave, in lessons. Nip said to me "Let him be. He will figure it out". And he did. I have since told my son the same about his kids. "They have the basics so leave them be to have fun. They will figure it out". Thank you Nip for your wisdom and kindness. Working with you at the ski school was one of my greatest joys. You will be sadly missed. My love goes out to Molly, Tuk and family.

Did my rookie "examining" with Nip at Sunshine in 1978. I remember he was above all funny and kind; kind, so long as you very quickly got his system for transcribing the marks! Ski instruction then was more fun, more playful, less laden with educational jargon than it is now and Nip was the perfect example of that approach: fun, playful and he taught you a lot.
My sincere condolences to family and friends.

I can still see his face. Camped at Larch lake on the long weekend and remembered him fly fishing there as we gathered for a ski school gathering. Seems a little ironic. Always so kind!! The best ski Instructor I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I learned many things from him. It always amazed me when he would show up just when you needed him most when I was a new Instructor. He was so caring. I remember clicking into his skis at the bell and he said take them for a ride. Which was great and then he proceeded to tell me my skis where done... Get new ones he blurted out...as he used mine!!! What an awesome soul! He will be greatly missed by all:heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament:

My conductances to his beautiful family. Nip was most definitely one if the greatest people I have met.
He took me under his wing and treated me like family and I will always be thankful for his love and support while I lived in Canada and was so far from my family. Nip was my Canadian dad. I can still hear him and his advise in my every day life. I even hear him telling me off.
He was my mentor and gave me purpose for the direction of my life.
I've been trying to contact nip over the years to say hi and let him know life worked out for me with 2 beautiful girls and a loving husband.
He was the best boss anyone could ask for, he cared for us he helped us with our teaching by hiding in the trees watching us. I remember finishing the lesson going back to the office and him telling me he saw me fall over hahaha.
I remember one day the guys hung me upside down for doing something stupid and Nip came out to my rescue. So many laughs and good times. I remember him coming out with peppermint schnapps on the freezing sub temperature days to keep us warm.
You'll be missed Nip,near and far and you have changed so many lives for the better.

An amazing teacher and true gentleman. My brothers and cousins took lessons from him every February when we were kids. We all wanted to ride the chair with him because he always told us stories and jokes..."look at that s car go (escargot)!". He had us sing songs with hand gestures while we skied through the trees..."little rabbit Fou Fou"...all with a teaching goal in mind. Our sincerest condolences from The Donlevy family. I met Nip at Sunshine Village I was taking the Level IV CSIA Course in 1985. I only had to meet him that once and I just wanted to learn how to do this for the rest of my life. He taught with kindness and a gentle way of encouraging people to challenge themselves and to surprise themselves with their potential. He was so incredibly gifted . He was so incredibly generous to share his gifts. I will always remember how he giggled and his eyes twinkled in such a way it made me believe he didn't want to be anywhere else.
Much sadness to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family. Donie Morgan-Blunden

I only met Nip on one occasion but he greatly influenced my life. As an eighteen year old I was in Thunder Bay on my ASI (Level 2) CSIA course and considering becoming a full-time ski instructor and also wondering what to pursue as a complimentary summer profession. During a session with Nip, he stopped the lesson in progress to point out a spray plane passing overhead. He announced to us,"That's what I do in the summer, I fly cropdusters." Two months later I started taking flying lessons. Two years ago, I retired from Air Canada as a B-777 Captain. I always wanted to thank him in person, but our paths never crossed again. Thanks Nip.

I had the pleasure of meeting and work with nip at Kimberley alpine resort in the ski school.
I will always hold dear the vast amount of knowledge and support he showed me over that 3 year period. Nip had tremendous love and passion for the sport of skiing. You could see it on his face everyday and he showed the same love and respect no matter who you were, where you were from or how poorly you skied.
It was a tremendous honor to know and be about of his skiing life, he will be dearly missed
