Shirley Barbara King
1931 - 2017
It is with profound sadness that the family of Shirley King announces her passing on Monday, February 6, 2017 in Cranbrook at 85 years of age.
Shirley was born on April 22, 1931 in Fort William, Ontario to Phillip and Margaret Kine. She was the third oldest of seven children. Shirley married Murray in August of 1951. They had a busy life together with their four children, extended family and within their church community. Shirley loved having kids around and all came to know and love the art of gardening and quilting. They moved to Cranbrook in 1971. Shirley worked (and played) in the kitchen at the Cranbrook Hospital for 20 years. She continued to garden and quilt and also took up painting. She enjoyed every moment spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retirement Shirley and Murray made many memories, traveling with family and friends and always making time for family. Shirley was an avid card player and Toronto Blue Jays fan. She enjoyed developing her relationship with God in the various small groups she attended, creating life-long friends.
Shirley is survived by her sons Ian King, Jim (Rae) King, Dave (Susan) King, daughter Barbara (Roger) Alaric, grandchildren Michael, Kevin (Shandy), Jaime (Chris), Erin (Stewart), Heather (Taylor), Patrick (Lindsey), David, Meghan, Saara, Chad and Kristen, 12 wonderful great grandchildren, her sisters Phyllis (Bev) Young and Linda (Jim) Huffman as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Murray King, daughter-in-law JoAnn King, her sisters Mildred and Wilma and her brother Bill.
