Obituary of Carmela Capuano

Carmela Capuano February 18, 1926 - January 11, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that the family of Carmela Capuano announces her passing at the age of 90. Carmela passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. Carmela was born on February 18, 1926 in Baselice, Benevento, Italy to Vincenzo Bianca and Mariuccia Cecce. She grew up in a small Italian village, where she began working as a young girl on local farms to help support her family. After WWII, Carmela married Leonardo Capuano in 1945 in Baselice. In October of 1952, she joined her husband in Moyie, BC. As a wife of a CPR employee, she raised four children while moving around the East Kootenays between CPR houses. In 1963, the family settled in Cranbrook, where she resided until her peaceful passing. Carmela was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was well known around Cranbrook, as she was an avid walker who enjoyed visiting with those she met along the way. Carmela was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 68 years Leonardo, her infant son Michele, and her beloved son Vince. Carmela is survived by her daughter Susie Masi (Joe), and sons Mike (Eva), Silvio (Christine), daughter-in-law Toni Evans (Tony), along with eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held for Carmela at McPherson Funeral Home, Cranbrook on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Her funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cranbrook, BC on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 10:30 am. Her interment will follow in Westlawn Cemetery.
