Obituary of Richard Hird

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved son and brother Richard Hird. Rick passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024 at the Cranbrook hospital. He was predeceased by his mother Helen and his youngest brother Doug.

Rick’s passion of the outdoors spanned his lifetime. He was a keen fisherman who spent many summers and winters fishing up the St. Mary’s valley as well as enjoying many wintery weekends snowmobiling with his brothers and father. A love of classical rock music showed through his enjoyment of playing his electric guitar and attending concerts with friends and family. Rick’s love of reading was evident in the various books on his nightstand and strewn about his apartment. Just before his passing, Rick finally ordered a beautiful book of the band Led Zeppelin which he had been wanting to purchase for years. His diverse interest in literature showed on his bedside table at the hospital. He was reading the Rolling Stone, National Geographic and Macleans magazines.

Rick is survived by his father Douglas, his brother Randy, sister Cyndy, his nephew Stephen and his nieces, Jennifer, Courtenay and Mary Elizabeth. As well as his step-niece Stephanie

Rick, you will be missed dearly.
