Obituary of Iona Louise Rutley

1919 - 2010

It is with deep sadness that the family of Iona Louise Rutley announces her passing on Monday, May 31, 2010 at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook, British Columbia at 91 years of age.

Iona was born on February 16, 1919 in Crystal Lake, Saskatchewan . She moved to Cranbrook in 2007 and resided in Joseph's Creek Retirement Village for a time and then purchased her own home in Willowbrook Estates, where she thoroughly enjoyed having her family and friends visit. Iona loved to read, sew, crochet, play Scrabble with her grandchildren, and was always up for a good game of bridge. She recently taught her great granddaughter to knit. Iona will be remembered for her wonderful sense of wit and love of her family and friends.

Iona is survived by her 3 children: her daughter Sheila (Wayne) Schell of Cranbrook, B.C.; grandson Jeff (Tina) Schell and great granddaughters Shelbi and Kira of Beaumont, AB, Dena (Jason) Harvey of Cranbrook, B.C.; her son Bill (Barbara) Rutley, granddaughter Megan Rutley and grandson Ethan Rutley of Kelowna, B.C.; her son Calvin (Lynn) Rutley, granddaughters Lauren and Erica Rutley of Smithers, B.C.; her sister Dorothy (Gordon) Sadler of Birch River, Man; and her cousin, Loretta Smaniotto of Calgary, AB, and her nieces and nephews of the Rutley/Corbett families. Iona was predeceased by her husband, Harvey J. Rutley in 2005 in Penticton, B.C. and infant son Harley Rutley in 1945 in Flin Flon, Man.

A big thank you to the nursing staff on the 3rd floor of the East Kootenay Regional Hospital as well as to Dr. Brown and Dr. Joubert.

A funeral service for Iona will be held on Friday, June 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook, B.C. Her Internment will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Penticton, B.C. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Iona's honour can be made to the: The Kidney Foundation of Canada, 300 - 5165 Sherbrooke Street West, Montreal, Quebec, H4A 1T6.
